SpLD Outreach Service Leader – Jenny Wright
SpLD Outreach Service Teacher – Helen Smith

What we do:

School and Pupil Focused Work

The SpLD Outreach Service provides a service for schools and their pupils in accordance with the Hertfordshire Guide to Primary SpLD (Literacy and Numeracy) Outreach Services.   It offers advice, support and training to enhance schools’ capacity to successfully meet the needs of pupils with specific literacy and numeracy difficulties.  This is accomplished through a yearly Action Plan which sets out the needs for the school.  These are then met through pupil focussed consultation sessions. The SpLD Outreach Service team works hard to promote positive working relationships with their schools, in order to support staff and pupils and to create learning friendly classrooms.

INSET

The SpLD Outreach Service offers a termly programme of INSET for teachers and teaching assistants, as well as some core training on County initiated intervention programmes.  A regular part of the INSET programme is the inclusion of well-regarded guest speakers such as Gervaise Phinn, Professor Tanya Byron , Neil MacKay and Michael Rosen. The SpLD Outreach Service INSET programme has always been well supported by schools, both within and outside the East Herts Area.

Resources

Visitors to the Outreach Centre often comment on the warm, friendly atmosphere.  Resources are constantly being updated and include books, games and ICT.

Drop-in Afternoons are held termly and provide schools with opportunities to view the selection of literacy and maths resources.

The catalyst SEND Library is now housed at Thorley Hill Outreach Centre providing a wide range of assessments for members SENCos to borrow by appointment.
